Earlier this week the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) select committee presented a statement to the House on the publication of the Third Report into Post-Pandemic Economic Growth - Levelling Up.
Richard Fuller, Member of the Select Committee and MP for North East Bedfordshire, said:
I took the opportunity to ask the committee Chair, Darren Jones MP, whether he agreed that the government should not lose sight of the role of the private sector in defining the levelling up agenda and should consider ideas such as those announced in the Richard Koch Breakthrough Prize offered by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA).
I particularly highlighted initiatives such as Zoom Towns, Distributed Policy Making, reinvigorated provincial stock exchanges and the winning idea for a 'People's Rebate' as having the potential to contribute effectively to the levelling up agenda.

The committee's full report can be read here. The 'levelling up’ inquiry looked at how local and regional government structures (including the role of powerhouses, local enterprise partnerships and growth hubs, city and regional mayoralties, and councils) could be reformed or better equipped to deliver growth locally.
