Home Office

Richard has welcomed today's announcement from the Home Office that plans to use the site adjacent to the existing Immigration Removal Centre at Yarl's Wood for temporary accommodation for asylum seekers as part of Covid winter contingency planning, will now not be needed.

Commenting, Richard Fuller, MP for North East Bedfordshire where Yarl's Wood is situated said: "This is a welcome announcement by the Home Office.  The use of Yarl's Wood was stated as a temporary measure, needed over the winter to house asylum seekers safely during the national lockdown.

"As time has gone on, it has become clearer that the forecasted need had either not materialised or was being accommodated elsewhere.  I am grateful to the Minister for recognizing this and confirming today that these temporary accommodations will not be used.”
