In today's Prime Ministers Questions, Richard raised suggestions from Year 6 students at Edward Peake Church of England Middle School about the impact of lockdown and their ideas for promoting a healthier planet.
Last month, the Year 6 students wrote a series of letters to Richard about the positive lessons from lockdown as part of their literacy work. Their class teacher, Miss Twitchett, wanted to give her students the opportunity to have their views heard by a real audience so they wrote to their MP. Key themes raised were around the environment and pollution and Richard took the opportunity to ask the Prime Minister how these ideas could be incorporated in the government's Green Plan.
Commenting after PMQs, Richard said: "I was very impressed by the letters from the Year 6 pupils and by the initiative by Miss Twitchett to give purpose to their writing by having their letters sent to someone, rather than just as an exercise. I was therefore very pleased to highlight the good work of the school and to provide the class with a sense that their thoughts and actions can have a real impact with people such as the Prime Minister who are in powerful positions of authority."
