Richard recently addressed a roundtable of TheCityUK members about the Conservative Party’s approach to fiscal responsibility and the role of financial and related professional services in supporting economic stability and growth.

Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Richard Fuller MP said:

The City of London has been a major driving force of economic growth in the UK for decades, but the engine room of the City is being held back by too much regulation, too high taxes and too little attention to the potential of technology to help keep London’s edge.

These topics were part of my discussion with member organisations of TheCityUK, businesses that are striving to maintain our national leadership in global finance each and every day.

I also outlined my approach to assessing ideas for reshaping public expenditure to focus on productivity and more responsive public services, delivered at lower cost to the taxpayer.

There were lots of useful questions and useful advice too.

TheCityUK is the industry-led body representing UK-based financial and related professional services, an industry that contributes over 12% of the UK’s total economic output, is the largest tax payer and employs 1 in 13 workers across the country.
