Following Richard's recent Adjournment Debate on East Park Energy Solar Plant proposal, he wrote an article for The Parliament Politics.
Richard Fuller MP said:
I reiterated my opposition to this development on the grounds of size - a significantly bigger footprint than Gatwick Airport, land use - 74% of the proposed 1,900 acres is classified as best and most versatile agricultural land, the cumulative impacts of this being just one of 6 major infrastructure projects affecting Bedfordshire and the inconvenient truth that the cost of energy derived from solar will not lead to lower energy prices for individuals or businesses as is invariably claimed.
Since the election, the Energy Secretary has approved all 12 solar schemes that have come across his desk and has yet to refuse any. I believe there are good reasons why he should refuse this proposal.
