Last week, Richard met with a constituent in Parliament who came to discuss UNISON's 'Fund Our Future' campaign, which is calling for fundamental changes to the way higher education is funded.
Richard Fuller MP said:
I was pleased to meet with my constituent, Patrizia, who was in Westminster as part of UNISON’s Fund Our Future campaign. The event gave MPs the opportunity to hear directly from higher education support staff about the challenges they face, including concerns around funding, job security, pay, and workloads.
I appreciated hearing Patrizia’s perspective and the passion she brought to the discussion. While I don’t believe that continually increasing funding is the sole answer to the issues in higher education, I do agree that we must look carefully at how the sector is funded to ensure it remains accessible, sustainable, and able to attract and retain talented staff.
It’s important that we strike the right balance to ensure value for public money while also recognising the vital role that universities and their staff play in our communities and economy.
