Last week the Shadow Chancellor delivered her "1979" speech in which she tried to draw parallels between the current economic outlook in the UK to the shambolic public finances that Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government inherited from Labour in 1979.

After speaking in the House of Commons, which can be watched at https://youtu.be/t7-Ipj2ROwI?si=b9zXomExeVRPv87-, Richard Fuller MP said:

The two scenarios could scarcely be further apart as I pointed out in the Chamber when highlighting the independent Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) forecasts for 2025-2028 which show GDP growth, GDP per capita growth, average earnings increases and productivity growth.

The Chancellor added that according to the independent International Monetary Fund (IMF), in the next 5 years, the UK's economy will grow faster than France, Germany, Italy or Japan.
