Richard contributes to Finance Bill debate and raises concerns about Pillar Two global minimum Effective Tax Rate (ETR) for multinationals

Last week, the House of Commons debated this year's Finance Bill.

Contributing to the debate, Richard Fuller MP said:

Some key clauses in this year’s Finance Bill were debated in Parliament last week.

I have considerable scepticism that, for all its presumed good intentions, the international treaty on global minimum tax rates for multinationals will not prove helpful for Britain. In particular, without the active participation of non-OECD China and questions over whether the US will ratify its agreement, I wanted to be sure the U.K. government does not blindly rush forward.

At the other end of the tax scale I remain critical of the approach by HMRC to those taxpayers caught up in the Loan Charge issue. HMRC has taken a very aggressive stance in an attempt to clear cases but this is not working. Thousands of taxpayers are still in dispute - with many in despair. I really think the Tax Minister should call an urgent review of HMRC actions on this matter
