GB Insulation Scheme

The Government has launched a new home insulation scheme - the Great British Insulation Scheme. Backed with £1 billion of funding, the scheme is designed to to help those most in need to heat their home for less.

Families in lower council tax bands with less energy-efficient homes will be offered vital upgrades - such as roof, loft or cavity wall insulation - which could cut their annual energy bill.

The scheme will help those on the lowest incomes as well as extend support to a wider range of households compared to other existing government-funded schemes. Those eligible for support under the Great British Insulation Scheme include families in council tax bands A-D in England with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or below.

The 300,000 set to benefit nationally are in addition to the 2.4 million homes that have so far benefited from new energy efficiency measures under existing support schemes, as part of government’s ongoing efforts to protect the most vulnerable across the country.

This new scheme is in addition to the existing Home Upgrade Grant which is available to residents who live in properties which are "off grid" - Apply for help to improve a home with no gas boiler (Home Upgrade Grant) - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Welcoming this announcement, Richard said:

"This is a significant and worthwhile new scheme which could help hundreds of constituents to make insulation improvements to their home which will help the environment, keep them warmer and cut their annual energy bills by as much as £300-£400. A number of different types of energy efficiency measures are available and if you think you might be eligible, please take a look at the following link which has more details.

I know from my inbox and regular surgeries that home energy efficiency is a real problem for many people, some of whom live in older properties which are often harder to keep warm or who would like to make improvements but cannot manage the upfront cost of making those improvements.

This scheme should help hundreds of constituents to make a positive and lasting change to the energy efficiency of their homes."

Details of the scheme and how to apply can be found here: Families to save hundreds through £1 billion insulation scheme - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and this link contains information about the online checker service.
