On Tuesday in Parliament, Richard held a parliamentary debate in Westminster Hall to highlight the flaws in the underlying rationale for East West Rail, and to continue to push the argument that better, greener alternatives exist to deliver the growth that EWR purports to enable.
Westminster Hall debates are effective mechanisms for challenging government Ministers and can be attended by other MPs with an interest in the topic.
After the debate, Richard Fuller MP said:
I made a number of requests to the Rail Minister, Huw Merriman, including inviting him to “walk the route” by visiting my North East Bedfordshire constituency and asking him to instruct East West Rail to provide more detailed maps and to contact all residents whose land or homes will be affected, including the anticipated impact.
I also challenged the Chief Executive of East West Rail to come to Bedfordshire for a public debate with me on their economic case: openly, transparently and honestly.
