The transmitting station at Sandy Heath between Sandy and Potton, which delivers television and radio services to more than one million people across the south east of England, started broadcasting in July 1965. Richard recently visited to celebrate the iconic transmitter's 60 years of service.
Richard Fuller MP said:
It was a huge pleasure to join with the Mayor of Sandy, Joanna Hewitt, to mark the 60th anniversary of the iconic Sandy Heath transmitter.
This transmitter is responsible for delivering over the air signals for multiple TV channels as well as supporting emergency and other services.
During our tour we learned about how the station has developed over the years as technology has evolved, including the move from analogue to digital signals and enabling the site to do more with less.
Even as people move to cable based transmission, I can’t help feeling confident that there will be a 100th anniversary for this important component of the connectivity for our country.
