Cervical Cancer Prevention Week

January 23rd-29th was Cervical Cancer Prevention Week and Richard was pleased to show his support at the Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust event in Parliament.

Cervical cancer currently kills two women in the UK every day and the charity is calling for action, innovation, and awareness to help end cervical cancer.

Richard Fuller MP said:

Cervical screening and HPV vaccines save lives, and together we can end cervical cancer in the UK.

Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust recognises that attending a screening isn’t always easy, but they are there for you with information and support if you ever need them.

You can find out more information at: https://www.jostrust.org.uk/get-support

Currently, all women between the ages of 25 and 64 are offered the opportunity to be screened routinely to detect cervical abnormalities at an early stage. It is concerning that latest figures from March 2021 show that nearly a third (30 per cent) of women between 25 and 64 have not been screened.

The Department of Health and Social Care has taken forward a number of recommendations made in the Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust report, “Computer Says No”, which include greater flexibility for women invited for a cervical screening appointment to be able to book at a range of primary care settings. Many providers now offer evening and weekend appointments.
