This week in Parliament, Richard took part in Her Majesty's Gracious Speech debate, which on Tuesday centred on tackling the short-term and long-term cost of living increases.

Speaking after his contribution to the debate, which can be watched at https://youtu.be/fAJOtmjTeOc, Richard Fuller MP said:

Whilst acknowledging that short-term solutions were rightly the main focus of the House, I sought to outline some long-term opportunities for the financing of the required changes in how we heat our homes if we are to meet the goals and timeframe of our path to net zero.

I proposed the idea of net zero community green schemes as a way of financing the net zero delivery of home heating through pension funds and private capital, rather than placing the full onus on households paying for new, and exorbitantly expensive, heating solutions such as heat pumps.

I also took the opportunity to highlight the myriad failures by many of the regulatory agencies and called for substantive reform of these bodies. I argued that Ofgem, the Financial Reporting Council, the Pensions Regulator and potentially even the Bank of England have been asleep at the wheel in the recent past and reform is required to introduce performance indicators and oversight by Parliament and the public.
