Latest research from Age UK shows that over a million pensioner households who are eligible for Pension Credit are failing to take up this benefit. That amounts to approximately 40% of eligible households missing out on what could be a vital supplement to their income.
The research suggests that those eligible may not be aware that these benefits are available, they may think they might not qualify or may be put off by the process of applying, or feel reluctant to ask for help.

The Department for Work and Pensions uses a wide range of channels to communicate information about benefits to potential customers but I am committed to ensuring that older people receive the support they are entitled to, so they can enjoy dignity and security in their retirement.
