Councils experiencing the largest growth in new housing in the country, such as Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough in Richard's constituency, are also some of the local authorities most interested in investment in cycling and walkways.

In parliament, Richard asked the Transport Minister, Chris Heaton-Harris, to give special consideration to his local authorities' active travel network plans. The minister responded positively that his department would be happy to offer advice.

Richard said: "I look forward to working with the Department of Transport to ensure our local authorities' ambitious active travel network plans deliver the cycle and walkways needed to support housing developments."
