Richard opening Conservative Party Conference 2024

On Sunday, in his capacity as interim Party Chairman, Richard opened the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham.

Addressing the membership, Richard said he was “profoundly sorry” for the election loss and that the parliamentary Party “needs to learn and has to change”. In his speech he announced details of a review into the general election and how he has reached out to Lord Daniel Hannan and the The Rt Hon Penny Mordaunt to help rebuild the Party.

Richard outlined how the leadership contest would feature prominently throughout the four days of conference, with the opportunity for members to see the leadership candidates at many different types of event throughout the conference, and that members would be put back at the heart of conference with the return of member debates.
