RUG meeting with GTR

Last week, Richard welcomed Managing Director of Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), Tom Moran, and representatives of the Arlesey, Biggleswade and Sandy Rail User Groups (RUGs) to Biggleswade to discuss recent levels of service for local commuters.

Speaking after the meeting, Richard Fuller MP said:

No one disputes that the trains servicing Biggleswade, Sandy and Arlesey have been atrocious for the past few months.

I was pleased that GTR Managing Director, Tom Moran took the time to meet with me and representatives of the three affected Rail User Groups to outline the reasons behind this poor service and most importantly, what steps will be taken to improve reliability going forward.

Mr Moran made no effort to play down the seriousness of the situation and recognised the devastating impact it is having on the lives, and potentially careers, of those commuters who just want a service they can rely on.

In a forthright but constructive discussion, development plans were detailed by GTR and suggestions for improvements were raised by the RUGs. As Mr Moran himself said, there have been assurances and warm words from GTR in the past, so it’s high time we see actions and tangible improvements going forward from this meeting.

My thanks to Tom Moran and Patrick Ladbury of GTR and Jodie, Kerry, Hayley and Simon who represented the rail users so diligently.
