Meeting with Historic England

On Tuesday, Richard held an online meeting with several executives from Historic England to discuss constituents' frustrations with the process for making alterations to their homes, most specifically to make them compliant with new Energy Ratings.

Historic England have the task of looking after England’s historic environment including monuments, bridges, battlefields and, for the purpose of Richard's meeting, people’s homes.

Speaking after the meeting, Richard Fuller MP said:

There are approximately 300,000 “dwellings” registered with Historic England ranging from flats to entire rows of terraced houses with each graded I, II* or II. There are quite a few homes in my constituency that are Grade II listed buildings and some owners have contacted me over the past year to express their frustrations with the process for making alterations to their homes, most specifically to make them compliant with new Energy Ratings.

I raised a number of these concerns on the call and Historic England volunteered to review each individual constituent concern raised.

To help more generally on issues such as the installation of solar panels or of electric charging points, Historic England is producing a more precise and detailed guide for Local Authorities to ease the particular burdens on owners of Grade Listed Buildings. Hopefully this will streamline the process for local residents.
