Last Thursday, the House of Commons Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Select Committee attended COP26 for Energy Day, as part of the select committee's work scrutinising energy decarbonisation in the UK and hearing how the UKs co-presidency is helping countries around the world end the use of coal and move to renewable generation.

Speaking after the event, Richard, Fuller, MP for North East Bedfordshire and Member of the BEIS Select Committee said:

As a member of the Business Select Committee I attended COP26 in Glasgow last week on energy day.

I listened as country after country announced the decommissioning of coal based power plants and scrapped plans for future ones. Excellent news, provided we move forward with other alternatives including, here in the UK, nuclear power as well as wind, solar and other renewables.

I was also pleased to bump into COP26 President Alok Sharma who is using these last days of COP26 to achieve more international agreements aimed at limiting future climate change.
