Today in Parliament, Richard asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs (Defra) whether the current fixed penalty fine for fly-tipping should be increased and what other efforts the government is taking to act as a deterrent.

Richard Fuller, Member of Parliament for North East Bedfordshire, said:

The Secretary of State assured me that a number of avenues are being explored to clampdown on this blight of our rural communities and bring the perpetrators to justice.

It is also timely to remind constituents that you could be liable to be fined if your household rubbish is fly-tipped, even if you have paid someone to dispose of it. To safeguard against this you should always check that the company involved is registered and has the required licence to dispose of your waste.

Richard's question and the Secretary of State's answer can be watched here.
