During the debate on the Public Order Bill this week, Richard asked the Home Secretary, Priti Patel, for reassurances that she seeks a tightly scripted Bill, rather than a general threat to our individual freedoms.

Richard Fuller MP commented:

I was grateful for the Home Secretary for giving way to allow me to question her on the importance of the wording matching the intent of the proposed powers contained in the Bill.

I was reassured by her commitment to ensuring that the legislation tightly addresses the issue of those protests causing serious disruption or criminal damage, and will not be left so broad as to risk infringing on the freedoms of those wishing to protest peacefully.

Richard's intervention and the Home Secretary's response can be watched here.

Further information on Richard's contribution to the debate can be read here.
