The Park Home Owners for Justice campaign met in Parliament last week bringing together cross-party MPs to discuss the issue of the 10% commission charge park home residents face when selling their property.
Richard Fuller MP said:
Due to other duties, I was unable to attend the recent meeting in Parliament but have reviewed their research paper and their calls to action.
There are a number of park homes across North Bedfordshire providing comfortable accommodations and strong sense of community. During my visits and meetings with residents over the years, the issue of the sales commission has always been a source of frustration. As the research paper states, a large part of that frustration arises from the mixed messages about the rationale for charging the commission.
You can make an argument for the logic of a sales commission – as park home site owners often do – but if that logic keeps changing or is not easily understood, then public confidence will falter. I appreciate that the commission can offset pitch fee charges, but I do get the impression that this structure of payments is perhaps more trouble than it is worth.
Park Home residents deserve a proper consideration of these measures in Parliament and ideally a resolution via legislation. The Government has said it is considering a move. Let’s hope it does.
