Charities Funding

Today the Chancellor has announced £750m of funding for the charity sector, including hospices and those supporting domestic abuse victims.

The Chancellor rightly stated: “One of our greatest strengths as a country is our civil society. The local charities who provide so much compassion, care and community to the most vulnerable in our country.”

£360 million will be directly allocated by government departments to charities providing key services and supporting vulnerable people during the crisis. £370 million will be allocated to small and medium-sized charities, including through a grant to the National Lottery Community Fund for those in England, to support those organisations at the heart of local communities which are making a big difference during the outbreak, including those delivering food, essential medicines and providing financial advice.

The government has also announced that it will match - pound for pound - public donations to the BBC ‘Big Night In’ fundraiser on April 23rd, starting with at least £20m to the National Emergencies Trust appeal.
