Inpatient Mental Health Services Return to Bedford

Today Richard met with the East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) to discuss the return of inpatient mental health services to Bedford.

Bedfordshire, Luton & Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group (BLMKCCG) and ELFT will be returning inpatient mental health services to Bedford following the closure of Weller Wing at Bedford Hospital in 2017as well as working to develop modern, state-of-the-art mental health inpatient services for people with mental health problems . ELFT has explored a number of site options in Bedford and has now identified a preferred site at Bedford Health Village.

Richard, who campaigned for a new facility for inpatient mental health services to open when Weller Wing closed in 2017 said:

"I welcome the news that we will again have inpatient mental health services in Bedford which will serve residents of both Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire where there has been a gap in provision for far too long. I look forward to seeing the plans as they progress."
