This week, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Richard Fuller MP, delivered the closing speech for the Autumn Budget 2026 in the House of Commons, setting out why this Labour Budget has left the British people facing higher inflation, higher interest rates, greater borrowing and more debt than was promised last year.
Summarising his speech, Richard said:
Families will be worse off, not better off. This was a missed opportunity by the Labour government to demonstrate they were serious about funding defence and to getting people off welfare and into work.
It was also a missed opportunity by the Government to spell out the tough decisions needed to curb public spending, eliminate the deficit and cut the nation's debts, and to support young people who want to work but who are finding it hard to get jobs.
