“9/11” will resonate with many people. Friday marked the 25th anniversary of the attacks on the twin towers of the world trade centre, on the Pentagon and a fourth plane that crashed to the ground as passengers sought to regain control of the plane.
Richard Fuller MP said:
Many will remember precisely where they were, or what they were doing that morning. For me, the day began with catching a plane from Boston to New York - an hour or two before terrorists boarded two other planes at Boston - and then a walk across Manhattan as the first plane flew overhead.
For me, today will be a day of remembrance of those who lost their lives, of particular gratitude to the fire fighters, paramedics and police who lost their lives as they sought to save others.
It is also a time for reflection on the subsequent events and actions including those that involved British military forces. Their bravery was never, and never should be in question. But for people and politicians who make decisions that potentially involve conflict, perhaps today should be a day of very deep reflection. And that includes me.
