Not content with their Jobs Tax, Family Farm Tax, Working People Tax, and Savings Tax, the government is now coming after your hard-earned holidays! An extra charge would be levied for every night you are away. For a family of four on a summer holiday, this could add over £100 to the bill.
Richard Fuller MP said:
I recently attend UKHospitality’s parliamentary event to call for the government to drop this disastrous 'Holiday Tax'. While there, I spoke with Kate Nicholls OBE, Chief Executive of UKHospitality, who shared the devastating impact that the ever-increasing tax burden is having on our small and medium-sized businesses.
Our retail and hospitality sectors are already on their knees. One in seven hospitality businesses are being forced to close, and two-thirds are having to cut jobs – including jobs for young people. Why? Because of this government’s reckless approach to our economy, perfectly summed up by the Welfare Secretary’s own words: "Who can we tax in order to pay for benefits?"
Enough is enough. This Holiday Tax will be ruinous for businesses across our community.
This government still hasn't figured out a basic economic truth: you cannot tax your way to growth.
My Conservative colleagues and I will continue to fight this. We are calling on the government to do the right thing: reduce the ballooning welfare bill, cut taxes for hardworking people, and get out of the way of British business so they can actually get on with growing our economy
