A1 and A421 closures this weekend.

A1 and A421 diversion map

National Highways has informed Richard of the following weekend closures from 6am Saturday 4th July to 5am Monday 6th July 2026 for drainage works:

  1. A1 northbound between Tempsford and Black Cat
  2. A1 southbound between Wyboston and Tempsford
  3. A421 westbound between Black Cat and Renhold
  4. Bedford Road from Roxton Garden Centre to Black Cat

Please follow the designated diversions:

A1 northbound and southbound:

  • from A1 northbound, exit at Tempsford Interchange onto St Neots Road
  • take A428 west towards Wyboston
  • re-join A1 northbound at Wyboston Interchange

A1 southbound traffic to use the same diversion route in reverse.

A421 westbound:

  • continue on A1 southbound towards Sandy
  • at Sandy roundabout, take A603 towards Bedford
  • re-join A421 at Cardington Interchange

  • take Bedford Road towards Great Barford
  • join A421 eastbound at Renhold Interchange
