Work being conducted by Anglian Water along Hitchin Street is currently paused following an incident onsite last week where a member of Anglian Water's site team was injured.
Work was expected to recommence this week pending the results of the ongoing investigation but the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and before Anglian Water can restart, they need to make sure the right site team is in place and that everyone is fully ready to work safely on site.
As a result, Hitchin Street will stay closed for now, and their traffic management team will continue to carry out regular checks. They will provide a further update as soon as possible.
The project webpage is continuing to be updated with the latest news and before they start the next section of work, they will contact customers directly where their access will be affected.
Prior to the work being paused, Anglian Water had been working between Windmill View and Berkeley Close. This section will stay closed while the investigation is carried out, but once completed, the job of finishing installing the new pipe and putting the road back will recommence.
The next section of work will then start near Berkeley Close before moving along Hitchin Street past South View as shown in the attached map. During the work on this section, part of Hitchin Street will be closed, along with South View. Access to South View will be via Blunham Road which will change to two-way traffic with two passing places added to help vehicles pass safely.
