Post Offices are the consistent lifeline to our towns and villages and Richard recently met with the Post Office to discuss how they can safeguard the provision of cash and offer in-person banking services.
Richard Fuller MP said:
It was great to sit down with Jack Foden from the Post Office in Parliament to discuss the future of in-person banking, and the role the Post Office can play in providing these services. We had a detailed discussion about the upcoming Government review on face-to-face banking.
This is an issue I have been focused on for a while. When serving as Economic Secretary to the Treasury, I introduced the legal framework, as part of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2023, that mandated the provision of shared banking hubs as a practical way to retain in-person banking services on our high streets when standard bank branches close.
Locally, I’ve previously spoken to LINK about banking provisions for both Biggleswade and Sandy. Jack made it clear that the Post Office are keen to take up the offer to hold shared banking hubs. I’ll be watching closely.
In its recent response to the Green Paper consultation on the future of Post Office, the Government welcomed enhanced collaboration between the Post Office and banking sector to safeguard the provision of cash and in-person banking services for the future.
