Last week, Richard visited the Nationwide branch in Biggleswade.
Speaking after the visit, he said:
At a time when bank branches are closing and our post offices are feeling the strain, it was good to receive a letter from Nationwide Building Society in Biggleswade to say that they are staying put until at lease the start of 2030.
Biggleswade (and Sandy) have lost a series of bank and building society branches over the past few years and I have spoken to the government about establishing a Banking Hub in either town.
With no action on that yet, it will be a relief to local Nationwide customers to know they can still benefit from the friendly service and advice on Biggleswade High Street.
And I learned a fun (and quite stunning) fact - more than half of North Bedfordshire households have at least one Nationwide financial product like a mortgage or a savings account or credit card. Wow !! That is way above their national average. The Biggleswade branch must be doing something right !! Well done
