Richard recently received a report from Anglian Water about an investigation they had done into the awful sewage issues that have plagued the Chawston and Wyboston area for years.
The Complex Investigations Team was sent to undertake a thorough catchment study to find root causes and then plan and implement mitigation measures to reduce flood risk for the villages.
Richard Fuller MP said:
I am pleased that such a thorough investigation has taken place because the first step to resolving any problem is to develop a full understanding of precisely what the issues are.
By surveying over 9km of pipework, Anglian Water have discovered significant issues with infiltration of groundwater into the sewage pipe system, overwhelming capacity and causing loss of function.
This may prove to be only one of the reasons for the sewage problems in the area, and it may be that the remedial steps being implemented are not 100% successful. Nevertheless, it's an encouraging start and residents who have suffered so much in recent years can perhaps enter the autumn with slightly less trepidation and a little more hope than may otherwise have been the case.
