Richard recently caught up with the Chief Executive of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST), Neill Moloney, who is just completing his first year in office.

Richard Fuller MP said:

Our local ambulance crews are part of the sprawling geography of East Anglia for which EEAST has responsibility. Over the past decade or more I have seen successive management teams grapple with the challenges of running the service, to be honest with limited success.  My direct experience - on a ride along with an ambulance crew and sitting in at the 999 call centre - vividly demonstrated to me the pressures on frontline staff.

The new Chief Executive has taken some firm decisions – including the closure of the Bedford response centre.  We discussed local response times, facilities serving Sandy and Biggleswade and the potential impact of Universal Studios and Tempsford.  My view is that CEO of EEAST is one of the most challenging public sector roles in our area. Ultimately any CEO is judged by results, but for EEAST, more than perhaps for many other organisations, there is much to be gained from improving staff morale and I was pleased to hear of this CEO’s commitment to that task.
