Rail disruption on Great Northern and Thameslink services between Potters Bar, Peterborough and Royston over August Bank Holiday weekend

On Sunday 24th August, Great Northern and Thameslink services on the East Coast Main Line will be affected by engineering work in connection with the ongoing East Coast Digital Programme.

Additionally, evening services from approximately 8pm onwards on Saturday 23rd August and early morning services until approximately 9am on Monday 25th August (which is a Bank Holiday), will also be affected.  

The work taking place means that during the closure from the Saturday evening until the Monday morning, no trains will run between Potters Bar and Peterborough or Royston, and between Hertford North and Stevenage. Train services will run between King’s Cross and Potters Bar or Hertford North and between Royston and Cambridge / King’s Lynn. 

On the Sunday only, there will also be no trains between Moorgate and Finsbury Park.

Replacement buses will run in closed sections and to link up with alternative rail routes on the Midland Main Line for connections to and from central London.

Saturday 23 August, from approximately 20:00 until end of service 

No trains will run between: 

  • Potters Bar and Peterborough
  • Potters Bar and Royston
  • Hertford North and Stevenage

From approximately 20:00, rail replacement bus services will run between:  

  • Potters Bar and Hitchin
  • Hitchin and Royston
  • Hitchin and Peterborough
  • Hertford North and Stevenage
  • St Albans City and Stevenage via Hatfield
  • Luton Airport Parkway and Stevenage via Hitchin 

Sunday 24 August, all day

No trains will run between: 

  • Moorgate and Finsbury Park
  • Potters Bar and Peterborough
  • Potters Bar and Royston
  • Hertford North and Stevenage

Rail replacement bus services will run between:  

  • Potters Bar and Hitchin
  • Hitchin and Royston
  • Hertford North and Stevenage
  • St Albans City and Stevenage via Hatfield
  • Luton Airport Parkway and Stevenage via Hitchin
  • St Neots and Bedford
  • Hitchin and Peterborough 

Trains will run between: 

  • Royston and Cambridge / Kings Lynn
  • London King’s Cross and Potters Bar / Hertford North

Monday 25 August, from the start of service until approximately 09:00 

No trains will run between: 

  • Potters Bar and Peterborough
  • Potters Bar and Royston
  • Hertford North and Stevenage

Rail replacement bus services will run between:  

  • Potters Bar and Hitchin
  • Hitchin and Royston
  • Hitchin and Peterborough
  • Hertford North and Stevenage 

Ticket acceptance

From 21:00 on Saturday 23 August until 08:00 on Monday 25 August, all valid rail tickets will be accepted on:

  • Thameslink service between Bedford and London
  • Greater Anglia services between London Liverpool Street and Cambridge / Cambridge North
  • Paper tickets will be accepted on TfL London Underground services between:
  • Kings Cross St Pancras - Tottenham Hale (Victoria line)
  • Kings Cross St Pancras - Liverpool Street (Circle/Metropolitan/Hammersmith
    & City lines)

Paper tickets will be accepted on TfL Elizabeth line services between:

  • Farringdon - Liverpool Street (Elizabeth Line)

All day on Sunday 24 August, paper tickets will also be accepted on TfL London Buses between:

  • Drayton Park and Moorgate
