The latest meeting to discuss the new ramp and lifts to provide step free access to the platforms at Biggleswade Railway Station was held onsite to inspect progress.
Richard Fuller MP said:
Power cables for the lifts have been installed, the lifts are being built and throughout the summer, handrails, cctv and lighting will be added to the ramp.
Throughout the autumn, the hoardings will be removed, the platforms resurfaced and lift testing will take place in November before the lifts enter into service.
The project remains on track to open by the end of December.
GTR have made a request to the DfT for funding for the extra staff needed to man the lifts so they they can be open from the first train to the last train. We are waiting for news on this.
Our group - which includes Beds Rail Access Network, Biggleswade town and CBC councillors, GTR and Network Rail - has been meeting regularly since funding was agreed by the last government 6 years ago and despite many infuriating delays along the way, at long last we now have an end in sight. Thank you to all those who campaigned for this much needed and long awaited project.
