Richard at the A421 when it flooded last year

National Highways have written to Richard to let him know that overnight work will be taking place on the A421 Marston Moretaine eastbound slip road from 28th July to 7 August to upgrade the pumping station.

Richard Fuller MP said:

One of the key factors associated with the colossally disruptive flooding on the A421 near Marston Moretaine last year was the failure of the pumping equipment intended to alleviate such issues.

National Highways have been working to upgrade the pumping station and they are now moving into the final phase to install the new electrical gear and control system. Once complete, the expectation is that road users will benefit from improved flood prevention with better resilience for the future.

National Highways are planning to complete this work over six nights between 28th July and 7th August 2025. They will work between 8pm and 6am only, weather permitting.

To allow this work to be carried our safely, the eastbound entry slip road (Marston Moretaine) will be closed from Monday 28th July to Wednesday 30th July and then again from Monday 4th August to Wednesday 6th August (8pm to 6am each day).

Traffic will be diverted as follows:

To enter the A421 eastbound from Beancroft Road:

  • Head westbound towards the M1 junction 13 at Brogborough.
  • Once there, return onto the A421 eastbound to continue your journey. Drivers will be directed along a clearly signed diversion route.

Richard added:

Once this work is complete, National Highways will still need a further closure of the A421 eastbound carriageway between Marston and Marsh Leys. This is to allow for the safe removal of the old equipment. I will provide an update when I am informed of when that closure is scheduled.
