In March, Richard wrote to Laura Church, Chief Executive of Bedford Borough Council, for an update on the situation with Cleat Hill following the gas leak and subsequent tragic explosion last autumn. He recently received a reply.
Commenting on the response, Richard said:
Overall, the position regarding the ongoing presence of gas appears broadly positive. There is some gas being detected but it seems to be at a very low level, disperses within a few centimetres of the ground and is not being found in residents’ homes.
I have lobbied the government to provide funding to alleviate the financial burden that this explosion and its aftermath placed on the council and I note that nothing has been forthcoming to date. I remain hopeful that funding will be forthcoming as it is not right that the taxpayers of Bedford Borough should be on the hook for this issue.
