Richard was delighted to welcome the Shadow Chancellor, Mel Stride MP, to Bedfordshire last week along with his neighbouring colleague, Blake Stephenson MP.

Mel came to listen to local businesses who spoke about how both employers’ NIC and changes to business rate relief have had a significant impact on their ability to recruit & grow. Concerns were also raised about the Employment Rights Bill.
A good discussion with some points for us to take away as we work on our vision to re-wire the British economy to deliver jobs and growth. But one thing is clear, the Government’s jobs tax has really hurt Bedfordshire businesses and there is tangible concern that they will be hit with more taxes later this year.
