One of the issues that owners of listed buildings face is that of being able to 'modernise' their homes in a way that reduces bills and increases comfort, whilst satisfying the sometimes stringent rules that govern what they can and can't do to their property.

Later in June, Richard Fuller MP will be hosting a public meeting open to all North Bedfordshire constituents who own a listed building with representatives from Historic England.

Richard said:

Double glazing, solar panels, electric vehicle chargers, even increased levels of insulation are often either outlawed completely or only permissible within very tight guidelines.

Of course it is vital that we protect our heritage and ensure that such buildings remain faithful to their original construction, however, in this era of increased consciousness of net zero and decarbonising home heating, it is important to explore whether compromises can be reached that satisfy both objectives.

I will be hosting a public meeting open to all North Bedfordshire constituents who own a listed building and am delighted that representatives from Historic England will be joining to hear first hand about the issues people face and the kind of solutions they would like to see made available.

If you own a listed building and would like to attend this meeting, please email me expressing your interest and outlining some of the specific issues you face at [email protected]

Please also pass on this message to anyone you know in a similar situation.
