With the increasing expectation that there will be significant housebuilding in Tempsford in coming years following the Chancellor's growth speech which announced the fast-tracking of a new mainline station there, Richard recently wrote to National Highways asking for clarity on their plans for the challenges facing the A1.

Richard Fuller MP said:

Realignment of the A1 and other measures to alleviate the congestion caused by the roundabouts on that stretch of road have long been discussed however other that the Black Cat redevelopment, nothing has been done to 'fix' the A1. With these impending developments at Tempsford sure to greatly exacerbate the existing problems, it is more important than ever that serious discussions are had to build a robust and sustainable plan to address current and future concerns.

I am pleased to read from their reply this week, that National Highways are working closely with government, and I hope this ensures that solutions for the A1 are developed and implemented alongside, if not ahead of the housing and train station developments. Too often required infrastructure lags behind house building, and with the added pressures on the A1 that the new station will bring, we cannot afford for that to be the case here.

I look forward to discussing this further when I meet with Martin in Parliament on March 5th.
