Earlier this year, the Government launched a £3 billion fund to help homeowners upgrade their homes and save up to £600 a year on their energy bills. Today, the Green Homes Grant has launched and is open to applications. Not only will these measures help residents to save money and help the environment, they will support new jobs and be a vital part of reaching net zero emissions by 2050.
Welcoming the news, Richard said: " The Government pledged that throughout our economic recovery it would continue to support jobs while protecting our environment. As we build back greener, we want to improve people’s standard of living and reduce their energy bills. The Green Homes Grant scheme will see two-thirds of the cost of home improvements up to £5,000, funded by the Government. These improvements will help reduce people’s energy bills, cut our carbon emissions and support over 100,000 jobs.
The Green Homes Grant scheme will see the government fund up to two-thirds of the cost of home improvements up to £5,000. Those homeowners with low-incomes, including those on certain benefits, are eligible for a grant covering up to 100% of the cost of works up to £10,000. Grants will be offered to cover green home improvements ranging from insulation of walls, floors and roofs, to the installation of double or triple glazing when replacing single glazing, and low-carbon heating like heat pumps or solar thermal."
