Bedford Borough Council has published their proposals for new electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints across the Borough and is now consulting on these proposals until the 2 June. In February, the government announced approval of the first five Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund projects to support the roll out of chargepoints across England. Bedford Borough Council was one of the five and was awarded £1,010,000 LEVI capital funding. Richard Fuller MP said:
Bedford Borough Council is proposing numerous new installations of public chargepoints at sites in my North East Bedfordshire constituency and is seeking residents’ views on the plans.
The draft EV charging strategy sets out an approach that will substantially increase on-street chargepoint provision for people who do not have a driveway, garage or similar where they can park a car. This will principally be funded by the government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) scheme, from which Bedford Borough have been awarded just over £1 million in capital funding.
The areas that have provisionally been identified to be served with new chargepoints include parts of the urban area where there are currently gaps in the provision, and over a dozen villages in the Borough where demand is forecast to grow. The attached map shows the proposed new provision (in orange) as well as the existing sites (in purple).
The public consultation is open until 2nd June, and residents can read the proposals and respond here.
