Recently, Richard met with Tracy Cowan, CEO and Cliff Andrews, Deputy Chief Executive at the Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity.
Speaking after the visit, Richard Fuller MP said:
The range of roles and the scope of activities of Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity is far more extensive than I had thought as I learned on my visit to their headquarters in Cardington.
They have an impressive network of volunteers and paid staff providing social prescribing, mobility vans, “buddy walks” to help with rehabilitation, and points of contact in many villages for those who need help accessing publicly funded services. These are in addition to the organisation’s role in improving access to our countryside via Green Wheels.
I believe Bedfordshire has a great opportunity to extend our network of footpaths, cycle ways and bridleways to connect all through towns and villages down the eastern side of the county, and then to extend into the Borough of Bedford and across into Cambridgeshire.
I’m looking forward to working with BRCC and with Central Bedfordshire Council and others to put together a clear plan to make “active travel” a real option in our county.
