Richard Fuller MP and the Leader of Central Beds Council, Cllr Adam Zerny have written to the Roads Minister, Richard Holden MP, to call for improvements to the A1 in the Road Investment Strategy 3 (RIS3).
The Department for Transport's consultation on RIS3 concluded in July and the Government will confirm in due course which projects will be included in the RIS3 investment period between 2025 and 2030. RIS3 is the mechanism by which the Department considers improvements to the national strategic roads network.
The joint letter signed by Richard Fuller and Cllr Zerny is available below.
In July, Richard responded to the consultation by calling on the Department for Transport to include the A1 in its plans for the strategic roads network and to remove the roundabouts at Sandy and Biggleswade.
Commenting on the letter, Richard said:
"I am pleased to be working with Cllr Zerny on this issue. Improvements to the A1 are overdue and neither the Department for Transport nor National Highways have given the stretch of the A1 between Sandy and Biggleswade the focus that it deserves as a local road which is also part of the national strategic road network. As outlined in the letter, RIS3 provides an opportunity to provide the practical improvements which are needed and that is what we are calling on the Department to deliver."
