Last weekend Richard Fuller MP joined Bedfordshire Scouts and the Lord Lieutenant at the Leslie Sell Activity Centre in Bromham to plant a silver birch as part of Bedfordshire Scouting’s celebrations of the Queen’s Jubilee.
Since late January, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers have been planting 2000 saplings which includes a mix of Blackthorn, Green Beech, Hazel, Hawthorne and Orange Dogwood to improve the perimeter hedgerows and replace Ash trees that suffered Ash dieback. The remaining twenty-two trees of silver birches, planted on Saturday, when fully grown will stand tall over the surrounding trees and shrubs.
Speaking after the events, Richard said:
I was delighted to join Bedfordshire scouts in Bromham on Saturday to help plant the last of 2,022 trees at the Scouts’ Leslie Sell Activity Centre to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
The Leslie Sell Activity Centre comprises 8.15 acres of camping field and 20.75 acres of woodland (Bowels Wood) which is classed as Ancient semi-natural woodland and is a County Wildlife Site. The centre provides a variety of activities for young people all year round and the latest addition was a brand new state-of-the-art dormitory block (The Lodge) which only opened last year.
