Last Wednesday, Richard spent the afternoon with the Y5 and Y6 members of the School Council at Shortstown Primary learning about the eco measures they have put in place to help fight climate change.

The school holds a ‘bike to school’ week, which includes educating everyone about safety measures while cycling; they regularly pick up litter in the community square near their school; they have planted over 800 trees in the school grounds and they have been educating family members about the importance of recycling their waste.

Following the visit, Richard Fuller, MP for North East Bedfordshire, said:

I was delighted to hear all the green measures the school had put in place to have a positive impact on the environment. We also discussed how they had been elected to the school council – the process involved speeches and an election – and we talked about how their election was very similar to my own as a Member of Parliament. They also asked lots of questions about my work as the local MP.

Thank you very much to the teachers for arranging my visit and to the School Council for our lively discussion.

Richard has been visiting a number of schools in the constituency in the run up to the COP26 Conference in Glasgow in November. If you would like some ideas for what action you could take to help tackle climate change, please visit this website.
