Last week, Richard met with Hawthorn Class at Sutton VA Lower School to discuss COP26.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Sutton Lower School. The children had plenty of messages for Boris Johnson and the world leaders attending the Conference in Glasgow in November, which included providing more charging points for electric cars; reducing air pollution from factories; planting more trees; stopping deforestation; building on brownfield sites rather than farmland and building more wind turbines. There was even a creative suggestion to develop sea bins which could suck up the rubbish in the ocean.
The children told me about green initiatives they were running in school such as the ‘park and stride’ scheme, upcycling plastic for the sensory garden and rather than getting a plastic toy, the ‘star of the week’ now gets the treat of a hot chocolate with the Head Teacher, Mrs Chapman, instead.
The children also had lots of interesting and thoughtful questions about my work as a Member of Parliament both in Westminster and in the constituency. I was so impressed by their engagement and enthusiasm – everyone had their hand up and wanted to contribute to the discussion. Thank you so much to the children and teachers for such an enjoyable visit.
