Anglian Water have contacted Richard regarding a major £3million upgrade to 667 metres of pipe on Hitchin Street in Biggleswade. This work will commence in Spring and is expected to finish in November.
Traffic management will be in place on Hitchin Street for the duration of the project which is likely to include a combination of temporary traffic lights and road closures as the work progresses. Anglian Water will aim to minimise disruption, and access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times. Please see the map below showing the official diversion route that will be in place when a road closure is necessitated.
While this work is carried out, customers’ water and sewerage services won’t be affected, but if it is necessary to switch off customers’ water for a short time at any point, Anglian Water will always let them know in advance.
Anglian Water initially expected the work to take 46 weeks but they now believe they can complete the project in 31 weeks, so expect to finish in November.
Anglian Water will be sending regular updates to customers via email and text message about the project and about the work as it progresses. There will also be opportunities for residents to speak with the project team, including public meetings, ahead of construction starting as well as updates on the Anglian Water website at https://www.anglianwater.co.uk/your-local-area/report-an-issue
On contacting Anglian Water about the length of time the project would take, Richard was told:
"This project is not just the replacement of the water main, but the replacement of the water supply infrastructure in the area too. We will install over 130 connection points to the new main, which explains the length of the project. There are three phases of works:
- Phase 1: install the pipe
- Phase 2: install the new connections and test the water quality at each new connection
- Phase 3: remove the old ironworks on the street relating to the decommissioned main.
Prior to the construction starting, there will be some de-vegetation work at the site compound on the 25th and 26th February and 23rd March - 7th April. Construction is then planned to begin on 13th April."
