Anglian Water have sent Richard an update about the water main replacement project on Hitchin Street in Biggleswade.
They have now installed around 475 metres of new water pipe, nearly 60% of the schemes pipeline, and are soon preparing to connect homes and businesses to the new main. But as they progressed with the work, more complex ground conditions have meant they need additional time to complete the work safely, and now expect to finish by the end of November.
Anglian Water have encountered more existing pipes, cables and other utilities than expected as they moved towards the centre of Biggleswade, many of which were not where historic records showed them to be. Combined with multiple layers of road construction and more limited working space, it means their teams need to work more carefully to protect existing services while installing the new pipe safely.
They have reviewed the remaining programme to identify opportunities to save time wherever possible and their teams will generally be on site between 7:30am and 5:30pm, with weekend working where activities allow and will use this time for quieter activities to reduce disruption to customers.
They will also complete some connections both during the day and overnight, when water demand is lower, to help reduce disruption and save time. They will let everyone involved know if there are doing connections that will affect supply temporarily and or involve night working.
They have also advised that during times where they might have less visible activity on the site to wait for water quality test results in the connection phase, they will use this time to get other activities ready.
