Following a successful meeting with Tempsford residents in early December about government plans for a potential New Town, Richard Fuller MP, Tempsford Parish Council Chair, David Sutton and Central Bedfordshire Council Leader, Cllr Adam Zerny invited Parish and local authority and town councillors from the surrounding towns of Sandy, St Neots, Biggleswade and Potton as well as neighbouring Parishes to share latest information and opinions about forthcoming proposals.
Richard Fuller MP said:
The overall sentiment was a desire for local voices to be heard as any designs for a New Town are brought forward. There were concerns that we do not know what the perimeters of the New Town will be. Will it include St Neots and Sandy or will they be outside the “core area”?
Most representatives expect a Development Corporation to be established and want to know what the remit will be. How will it pay for infrastructure and will it follow the example of Milton Keynes in constructing the schools and medical facilities ahead of housing.
There was a lively discussion about the density of housing: will there be widespread houses of multiple occupancy, potentially mini tower blocks around a new Tempsford station? We do not know, but there is a lot of interest in being involved.
Next step lies with the Government.
